  • Goodwill and Acts of Kindness | Dr Angel Adams and Dr Patricia Papciak
    November 9, 2009

Have you ever heard the expression Assume Goodwill? Have you ever thought about what that really means? It’s an attitude. You live your life with the mindset that people in your life want to be kind, gracious and fair. You assume that although your world may not be perfect, you can develop a healthy attitude that the people you interact with on a daily basis will usually respond from a place of kindness, thoughtfulness and fairness.

Simply put, we need to develop an outlook that most people mean well. That seems easy enough. Why don’t we all live that way?

  • How to Become Calm in the Midst of Chaos | Dr Angel Adams and Dr Patricia Papciak
    October 19, 2009

There is something that happens to our brain and physical functioning when we are in a calm place. Neuroplasticity is the term that neuroscientists use to explain how the brain is changing all the time. If we are calm there are signals that go to the brain that are quite different than when we are stressed. Our brain is literally a reflection of our personal world, based on every thought we think and its accumulation of information and all our experiences.

  • Building Parent-Teacher Relationships | Dr Angel Adams, Dr Patricia Papciak
    October 5, 2009

It’s been about a month since school started again after the summer holiday. Your child has changed teachers, or schools, and new ideas have set swirling in their minds. They have reconnected with friends and generally pass the day in a pleasant way that enriches them. For the parents of those kids who are content and settled, this makes life easier for them. For parents of children with special needs however, life is not so easy.

  • Are Your Child's Eyes Shining? The Practice of Unconditional Love | Dr Angel Adams, Dr Patricia Papciak
    August 24, 2009

How do you make your children feel good about themselves so that they walk proud, feeling their own healthy power, with their heads high and their eyes shining?

  • The Power of Letting Go | Anonymous contributor
    August 17, 2009

This time last week I sat on a beautiful beach in Cyprus shaded from the direct glare of the midday sun, protected by a simple red cafe parasol, but most important of all by the loving warmth and affection of good friends and family. The good news about going on holiday is that it gives you time for reflection as you are not distracted by the everyday routines of life. The bad news is that if you have a child with Asperger Syndrome, like my son, it can create extra challenges. Our structures and escape holes are temporarily suspended away from home so that I have to be in many ways more innovative and calm with my son. I also wish to balance this with sensing pleasure and joy in the moment of being away from home. How can I do this?

  • How to Turn Clutter into a Peaceful Space | Dr Angel Adams and Lynn Adams
    August 10, 2009

I've have been doing it slowly but surely... decluttering my flat. Believe me, it is liberating. My kitchen, like many British flats, is very small; however, it looks much bigger now that I have cleared the shelves and the counters! Instead of vitamin jars and piles of boxes of teas, I now have a few beautiful and meaningful objects strategically placed to give it a Zen look. Metaphorically it feels like a shedding process. In the world of nature when the snake sheds its skin, it devotes all of its time and energy to getting rid of the old to make room for the new. For me, getting rid of clutter gives me room for a new look and a new feeling of external and internal space, and I feel lighter. There is more space to live in and work in--more space in my head because that minimalist look makes my brain feel less cluttered.

Many of us have a real tough time with letting go of clutter.

  • Time is Precious: Are you as Busy as a Beaver? | Dr Angel Adams, Dr Patricia Papciak
    July 27, 2009

We hope you never have to look back over your life someday and regret that you did not value and manage your time wisely. Each day offers an opportunity to use our time intelligently, yet the most important (though perhaps boring) tasks are avoided or stolen by the more mundane (though perhaps exciting) trivia. Pareto’s 80/20 percent principle in economics also can be applied to time. It simply means that the most trivial 20% of actions consumes 80% of our time and energy, whilst the most vital 80% receive only 20% of our time and energy. ...

  • How to Create More Happiness and Less Stress | Dr Angel Adams, Dr Patricia Papciak
    June 29, 2009

What is Happiness? It is defined as: the ultimate universal human desire to be in a state of well being characterised by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. What makes you happy? Does being with family members make you feel happy? Does walking in the countryside, holding a newborn baby in your arms, reading a good book or interacting with animals or birds bring you joy? And how can you make fleeting moments of happiness more enduring? What can you do to really understand and maintain a path to long lasting internal well being? What can you do to create a way of living right now where you wake up in the morning and you experience a joie de vivre and a love for humanity and a commitment to this beautiful planet we live in?

  • Resolve and Be Triumphant | Dr Angel Adams and Dr Patricia Papciak
    June 15, 2009

The definition of resolve is: to reach a decision with purpose: to bring to an end; to settle conclusively. When we resolve to do something, we put our minds to it in an effort to come up with the best possible path to our desired destination. We might resolve to do something ordinary like keep the house cleaner or get up earlier so that we don’t have to rush. Children might resolve to do their homework on time or to become more skilled at a sport. Others resolve to do something extraordinary. In fact, there is a phrase called Big Hairy Audacious Goal ("BHAG"), which originated as a 10-to-30-year goal for a team to progress towards an envisioned future. For example, Google’s BHAG was to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful, and Amazon’s goal was to make every book, ever printed, in any language, all available in less than 60 seconds.

Whether we resolve to do something small or have our own personal BHAG, we have new feelings of commitment that we hope will result in ourselves and the lives of others becoming more functional, remarkable, easier or purposeful.

  • Creating Healthy Eating Habits in Today's Society - What's the Bottom Line? | Dr Angel Adams, Dr Patricia Papciak
    June 1, 2009

There is an overwhelming amount of research about food these days regarding what is good or not good for healthful living. It can be very confusing. It often takes the pleasure away from eating as one tries to remember all those numbers, weight, alkaline versus acidic, blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index etc. Parents often see these issues as their own issues and do not address the importance of food for their children. The latest studies reveal how many young people are over weight, obese or even suffering from diabetes. Others battle problems with anorexia or bulimia in an effort to keep up with modern trends in fashion and style. Conditions like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) have their own associated dietary problems.
