About Dr Angel Adams

Dr Angel Adams has worked as a clinician for over 28 years. Originally licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the US, she is also a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professionals Council and is a BPS Chartered Clinical Psychologist. Dr Adams received her PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), a school within Alliant International University. It has an impeccable reputation for integrating research, theory and practice as well as preparing multi-culturally competent professionals. Her background includes extensive training in various models of clinical psychology including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural therapy, systemic family therapy. Dr Adams worked as an adult psychologist and as family therapist for 10 years before she trained as a child psychologist.

Dr Adams currently works in the Sutton CAMHS outpatient psychiatry team and has a part time private practice. She has worked at the NHS for a total of 16 years. She is an autism specialist and her work involves assessment and diagnosis, psychometric testing, and implementation of therapeutic interventions for looked after children, children/adolescents and adults with a broad range of diagnoses. She has been trained in administering the Autistic Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS) and many other tests and scales for the assessment of autism. She was the lead consulting psychologist for Eagle House School (a specialist provision for autistic children) from 2003-2005. She currently consults with Warren Park Children’s Home (Action for Children) to help adolescents who have SLD and autism with challenging behaviours. She has run groups via for the Sutton Authority’s PEIP for parents of children with ASD and ADHD. For the past 10 years she has co-run a weekly ADHD Assessment Clinic at CAMHS along side a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a Community Paediatrician. She is member of the ASD clinic. As part of the services offered at the clinic, Dr Adams provides evidence-based treatment including parent-training, support groups for siblings, consultation to schools, looked after children.. She speaks frequently at support groups for the National Autistic Society.

Dr Adams facilitates groups utilizing a cognitive problem-solving skills training and social skills training. She has conducted research on group intervention for children with ADHD which she has presented at this year’s International CHADD conference. She appeared on prime-time TV, in which BBC2’s Horizon science series featured the programme ‘Living with ADHD’. Since 1994, she has been a guest speaker at many conferences and seminars across the UK, Europe and USA. She has also chaired various conferences on ADHD. She provides court reports in civil, criminal and family cases, with a specialty in helping young adults with ASD and ADHD who are involved in the criminal justice system for a variety of offenses. She is a lecturer at St George’s Medical School, Royal Holloway University of London and Greenwich University.

Expert Witness

Dr Adams provides court reports in civil, criminal and family cases. Her assessments are based on psychological testing, clinical interviewing, psychodiagnostic evaluation when appropriate, and includes a complete review of all the case documents.   A review of the literature is conducted to reach a carefully considered, objective opinion.
